For many years, Feed the Hungry San Miguel has provided hot meals at school kitchens, benefiting more than 4,500 disadvantaged children every school day. We have done this work with an annual budget of approximately US$600,000 for more than one million meals served.

But when schools closed and many families lost their source of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to find another way to aid these communities and feed the children. Our goal was simple: keep people from starving. Within days of the announcement of school closures, we retooled our operations and launched the Feed the Families Emergency Response program. I am proud of how our organization rose to the occasion when change was required.

Since March 2020, we have provided critical nutritional support for more than 20,000 hungry residents of all ages. As of the end of August 2021, we have delivered 135,000 food bags containing ingredients to help the families prepare more than 13 million meals.

Needless to say, our personnel and budgets are stretched thin. Our funding needs have grown to over US$1,200,000 per year. Despite the contributions from our wonderful supporters, we are still left with an operating deficit.

Every year at this time, our Back to School campaign aims to raise funds for the operation of our school kitchens. It is still uncertain when classes will return to a normal schedule so that we can resume the hot lunch program. Therefore, at this time your donations are helping us keep our commitment to warding off starvation and malnutrition among thousands of San Miguelenses.

It will take a long time for devastated families to overcome their losses, and your generosity has a real and immediate impact as we deliver hope as well as food to these communities. We trust that we can continue to count on your support!

    Most sincerely,
    Al Kocourek
President, Feed the Hungry San Miguel, Inc.

    FEED THE HUNGRY SAN MIGUEL

THE CHILDHOOD  NUTRITION ORGANIZATION SERVING SAN MIGUEL CHILDREN SINCE 1984

We rely almost entirely on private donations to deliver balanced meals, nutrition education, and ancillary programs to thousands of hungry children in economically disadvantaged communities. Since 1984, Feed the Hungry San Miguel has been committed to improving the health and wellbeing of children in San Miguel de Allende. More than 60% of San Miguel residents live below the poverty level. One third are children who suffer from consistent malnutrition. We currently provide more than 4,000 meals every school day to students in 37 disadvantaged communities. For many children, this school lunch is their only meal of the day. We also provide food to 7 charities that serve orphans, the elderly, and the disabled. For more information please visit feedthehungrysma.org.
