How Guanajuato’s tourism stood out internationally in 2021

    Throughout this year, the state of Guanajuato participated in multiple events, fairs, and international programs, where it was recognized for the quality of its wines and distillates, its exquisite gastronomy, its original products, innovative events, and the wonderful destinations it has to offer.

    The following is a compilation of Guanajuato’s greatest achievements in tourism during 2021.

    First place in the Tapas championship in Seville
    In November, Guanajuato Chef David Quevedo put Guanajuato’s gastronomy on the world’s lips by winning first place in the “V World Tapas Championship” in the city of Valladolid, Spain, held in the Millennium Dome. His dish left behind Argentina, Panama, Chile, the United States, France, and more countries.

    26 medals for wines and spirits
    Mexico Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles announced the results of the 2021 competition, which awards 151 wines and 41 spirits from all over Mexico. This year, the fifth edition of the competition was held in the Magical Town of Mineral de Pozos, in Guanajuato, a state that stood out as the third with the most medals in both types of beverages.

     

    San Miguel de Allende “Best city in the world”.
    San Miguel de Allende won for the fifth time the highest award in Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards. In addition to this recognition, the list of the “Best Hotels in the World” was published, which includes one of the most traditional hotels in San Miguel de Allende: Hotel Matilda.

     

    Recognition for romance tourism
    During this year’s edition of the Tianguis Turístico, Coyote Canyon Adventures San Miguel de Allende, a romantic tourism experience “Aventura Romántica Deluxe”, was awarded the prize for demonstrating elements of quality, innovation, environmental, economic and social sustainability, gender perspective, and for promoting respect, protection, and guarantee of human rights.

    Winner of the Excelencias Gourmet Award
    In May of this year, the state of Guanajuato won the “Excelencias Gourmet 2020” Award for the Vinum Conversatorio Enoturístico de Guanajuato project at the 41st edition of FITUR, where an international jury honored 34 projects by professionals and enthusiasts of gastronomy, the world of wine, the gourmet universe, spirits, beverages and more.

     

    Guanajuato hosts international events
    This year the state of Guanajuato was named as the venue for the tenth edition of the most important adventure and nature tourism fair in Mexico: ATMEX, which will welcome industry professionals from Mexico and around the world, who gather every year to learn about the efforts being made nationally and globally to reactivate tourism, share experiences and create new opportunities for the sector.

    Foodhaton Challenge
    For the first time, the Foodathon challenge was held in Guanajuato, which consisted of highlighting gastronomic and food innovation based on methodologies such as Design Thinking and ABRetos, to identify opportunities in the industry and discover new flavors, preserve traditional and historical ingredients and customs for Guanajuato.
