The economic revenue generated by Easter Week in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, not only exceeded expectations for 2022 but also the figures obtained in any other year, including those prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, affirmed the municipal president, Mauricio Trejo.

In an interview with 24 HORAS, the mayor detailed that the tourism sector had an income of 302 million pesos from the Friday of Dolores to Easter Sunday.

“This places us in the destination, without the beach, of a greater economic impact to the country and in one of the three first tourist destinations already generalizing with beach and without the beach, and this taking into account that our hotel infrastructure is of 222 hotels”, he detailed.

THE FORECAST IS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

He added that since last March the municipality began to show, in an accelerated manner, signs of recovery in the sector, although the goals were planned for September.

As of that month, the mayor pointed out, the prices per guest were broken, as well as the “average check” in restaurants, according to the National Chamber of Restaurants and Condimented Food Industry (Canirac).

“This showed us that San Miguel de Allende was no longer in a stage of economic recovery, but was in a frank reality that already allowed us to focus on phase 2, which was to promote and carry out the strategy of economic detonation of the various sectors to have a healthy and thriving economic spillover,” he said.
