In order to prevent actions against women’s safety and at the same time protect drivers, the Secretary of Public Safety launched “Taxi Seguro” (Safe Taxi).

This municipal strategy for crime prevention and reconstruction of the social fabric consists of training courses for local cab drivers, with the intention of improving the safety of women during their transportation in this public service, in addition to improving the quality of customer service.

“Taxi Seguro” focuses on knowing what to do in the event of a threat against any of them.

Thus, drivers become active characters in the prevention measures against abuse and gender violence within public transportation and also identify in time an emergency on board their unit, since apart from being alert, they increase the possibility of creating internal strategies between drivers and users, particularly with female passengers.

These actions are in charge of the Department of Public Safety, Municipal Transit, and Civil Protection, through its Directorate of Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation, in coordination with the Directorate of Citizen Attention, Tours, and Support.

This first day of “Taxi Seguro” was attended by 33 operators who were trained with a gender perspective, in addition to sharing their experiences in prevention and dialogue with municipal authorities to improve them.

There, the drivers emphasized the importance of making citizen reports to the different emergency numbers, mainly 9-1-1, thus promoting the culture of reporting and legality in public transportation.

In addition, the drivers’ union was also trained to avoid being a victim of fraud and, at the same time, to apply different prevention strategies and to know the recommendations previously made to merchants and workers who regularly use their service.

With prevention and protection actions for both women and cab drivers, the Secretariat of Public Safety, Municipal Transit, and Civil Protection continue working to make San Miguel de Allende safer every day.
