The Department of Environment and Sustainability presented the Climate Action Program 2021 for San Miguel de Allende, which aims to restore strategic forest and hydrological areas to address climate change in the municipality.

Previously, the municipal president, Jesús Gonzalo González, accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato (SECTUR), Juan José Álvarez Brunel; Fidel García, Undersecretary of Environment and Land Management (SMAOT) and Roberto Castañeda, Undersecretary of Agri-Food and Rural Development (SDAyR), cut the ribbon for the reopening of the renovated municipal nursery.

The Climate Action Program integrates work with technical assistance from social organizations and rural localities, including soil restoration, tree remediation, and reforestation.

Juan José Álvarez acknowledged that the state government has “a serious commitment to the environment and that tourist destinations are concerned about it”.

Finally, they symbolically delivered more than 185,000 agave and endemic trees for the reforestation of nearly 1,200 hectares, mainly where the most important hydrological corridors of the municipality are located, such as Támbula, Picachos, Puerto de Nieto, Río Laja, and Cañada de la Virgen.
