From this Thursday until next Saturday, the State Capital will host the Annual Meeting of Mexican World Heritage Cities.

It was the mayor himself, Alejandro Navarro Saldaña, who through his account on social networks confirmed the realization of this meeting, which convenes the 10 governors of the Mexican cities, listed in the World Heritage.

In addition to Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City, Xochimilco, Campeche, Morelia, Oaxaca, Puebla, Queretaro and Tlacotalpan have this designation granted by UNESCO.

Over the course of four days, the mayors and representatives of these ten cities will analyze and discuss issues related to the World Heritage status of these cities in Mexico.

So far, as part of the program, there are scheduled lectures, meetings, exhibitions, sale of handicrafts, and various activities for attendees who are expected to arrive in the city to be part of this meeting.

The work will take place in various venues, such as the President’s Hall of the City Hall, as well as other spaces such as the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, La Plazuela de San Roque, among others.

Among the topics to be addressed is the importance of neighborhoods in the conservation of historic centers, tourism, and universal values, among other important topics on the conservation of cultural heritage.

Artistic presentations are also expected from cities such as Oaxaca, Querétaro, and Tlacotalpan, in addition to several work meetings, in which wide participation of the various delegations is expected.

The Mexican World Heritage Cities are meeting for the first time since 2020, the year in which they met in the city of Querétaro and had not been able to do so, due to restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

For its part, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) informed that the security and surveillance operation that will be deployed in the city on the occasion of this meeting is ready, where the participation of preventive police personnel is foreseen.

Personnel from the Civil Protection Department (PC) and the Transit, Transportation, and Traffic Police will also collaborate and will apply various security measures throughout the three days of the meeting.
