The Ministry of Education of Guanajuato granted international certification in the English language to a total of 95 elementary school students, with the objective of strengthening their communicative skills in the second language.

There were 50 students from Ignacio Allende Elementary School and 45 from Fuego Nuevo High School, both located in San Miguel de Allende. The certifications were granted through the Young Learners English test, endorsed by the University of Cambridge, and the Aptis for the Teens assessment test, granted by the British Council, which depends on the Government of England.

Both certifications introduce students to everyday spoken and written English and are an excellent way for them to gain confidence and improve the language, the tests are written around familiar topics and focus on the skills that are necessary to communicate effectively in English, i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing.

“It is a special day for the sixth-grade students, we are certified in a foreign language, and on behalf of my classmates and teachers we recognize the support for giving us the facilities to learn the language… today all our efforts are reflected with this achievement which is the first of many in our education,” said Pablo Enrique, a student certified with the Young Learners English test. For her part, Miriam, a high school student, expressed her pride in obtaining the certification through the Aptis for the Teens assessment test, “thank you for every teaching and tool that you provide us with, this certification was a unique experience that will allow us greater opportunities,” she said.

In her speech, Dymphna Verónica Rivera León, Technical Support for the Promotion of the Second Language in the Regional Delegation I, emphasized that the students applied exams with contents and activities according to their age and grade, in order to validate their learning of the second language.

In this context, the educational and school authorities present at the certification ceremony indicated that this distinction will be a tool that will not only allow them to advance to other levels of English but will also facilitate their participation in study programs, scholarships, and stays abroad.
