The powerhouse vocal star Lady Zen, consistently the biggest draw of any singer in San Miguel, grew up singing in church, was subsequently trained to be an opera mezzo-soprano, and then veered off the opera track to sing jazz and blues. With her three-and-a-half octave range and formidable technique, her voice can take many guises.  If any one style is quintessential Lady Zen, it is soul music — a genre, she says, that “moves me in a way no other music can.”  She adds, “Soul music has been referred to as secular testifying, and that’s exactly how it feels to me, another kind of poetry.”

In her first large-scale amphitheater concert in more than two years, Lady Zen, backed by the virtuosic Royal Court Band, has prepared a tribute concert devoted to two giants of soul, Marvin Gaye (“I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” “What’s Going On”) and Al Green (“Let’s Stay Together,” “Tired of Being Alone”).

Lady Zen’s Green and Gaye concert will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 7pm (doors open at 6pm), at the new La Troje Amphitheater at Our Habitas hotel/resort, in Valle de Los Senderos, Av. Central #101, Col. López Mateos, San Miguel de Allende.  Located only 15 minutes from downtown San Miguel, the amphitheater has tiered, stadium seating, assuring perfect sightlines for all members of the audience.

Our Habitas San Miguel is nestled in San Miguel de Allende’s countryside, surrounded by sweeping views of endemic trees, towering cacti and colorful wildflowers. Dedicated to sustainable hospitality and innovative design, our home celebrates the creative human spirit with a farm-to-table restaurant, ample outdoor gathering spaces and a wellness center with natural hot springs.
