Alfeñique Fair [] Plaza de la Soledad

The traditional “Feria del Alfeñique” returns to the Plaza de la Soledad in front of the Oratory and will be accompanied by some cultural events.

The Alfeñique Fair is a traditional fair, from the Day of the Dead festival, in which varieties of alfeñique sweet figures are sold, and where cultural activities of many kinds are also carried out, gathering many people every year.

In an interview with Víctor Hugo Chávez González, President of the Association of Alfeñique Antonio Bustamante, shared the details and invited the people of San Miguel to go to this fair full of sugar.

“We are working right now to begin on Thursday, October 13th, at 7 in the morning.  The Fair will run from October 13 to November 3.  The schedule from 9:00 in the morning to 10:30 at night and from October 27 we will have events in the House of Culture that will support us.  These events are going to be after 6:00pm. We are going to decorate the fountain as well, which is the main attraction there of the square, an arch is going to be put in Pepellanos Street, “said Victor.

Regarding the events that will take place in the Plaza de la Soledad from October 27 to November 2, he indicated that these will be held on the first plate of the steps.

He contributed that there will also be an alfeñique contest, this will be held on November 2, it is for the 30 exhibitors that participate in the fair every year. Each one will expose the traditional figure of San Miguel “which is the skull, the sheep alfeñique and the hen alfeñique”, and will be rewarding the first 3 places.

As every year 30 exhibitors will participate in this fair of the alfeñique of the Plaza de la Soledad, all of sugar, candles, candles, papel picado, a bread stand and a costume stand.
