  • Hi – I’m Ryan and I currently live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I have been training to run a marathon and since it is hard to find an organized one these days, I am going to run one solo at the end of March. The route is TBD, but for those that live here it will likely be near Alcocer.

I’d like to take the opportunity to raise awareness for plant-based eating, which has fueled my training, and also to raise money for a tremendous and impactful local non-profit, Feed the Hungry San Miguel (“FHSM”).

Feed the Hungry San Miguel is committed to improving the health and well-being of the children of San Miguel de Allende by alleviating hunger through school meals, family nutrition education, and community development. Due to COVID-19, schools were closed in March 2020 and children who had been served meals in FHSM school kitchens no longer received this critically important nutrition. FHSM quickly mobilized to retool operations to provide food for entire families, and since then have provided ingredients for more than 8 million meals for local families.

With the exception of powdered milk, all of the food FHSM provides to local residents is nutrient rich, plant-based items including oatmeal, beans, rice, and garbanzo, lentil and soy beans.

Any donations are kindly appreciated and will go directly to Feed the Hungry San Miguel. Thanks for reading and eat and enjoy more plants!

    FEED THE HUNGRY SAN MIGUEL

THE CHILDHOOD  NUTRITION ORGANIZATION SERVING SAN MIGUEL CHILDREN SINCE 1984

We rely almost entirely on private donations to deliver balanced meals, nutrition education, and ancillary programs to thousands of hungry children in economically disadvantaged communities. Since 1984, Feed the Hungry San Miguel has been committed to improving the health and wellbeing of children in San Miguel de Allende. More than 60% of San Miguel residents live below the poverty level. One third are children who suffer from consistent malnutrition. We currently provide more than 4,000 meals every school day to students in 37 disadvantaged communities. For many children, this school lunch is their only meal of the day. We also provide food to 7 charities that serve orphans, the elderly, and the disabled. For more information please visit feedthehungrysma.org.
