Members of the Rotary of San Miguel de Allende – Midday met with the municipal president Mauricio Trejo, who discussed the priority needs of this municipality.

Before a hundred San Miguel residents and members of the foreign community living in this city, Mauricio Trejo participated in this act of social closeness and presented the transcendental issues, such as security, economic reactivation, mobility in the historic center, water supply, public finances, local talent and the lirio in the Allende dam.

Several of the residents, represented by Rotary President Skip Essick and President-elect Lee Carter, thanked him for returning as municipal president after having previously made this commitment to the San Miguel Rotary Club.

In this dialogue convened in a city hotel, the mayor emphasized that San Miguel residents want a positive change in government and this public administration he heads is focused on generating a better quality of life for its inhabitants and not just surviving adversities.

The topic was security, where Trejo Pureco highlighted the “strong hand” to respect the human rights of the people, as well as the effort to ensure that today the San Miguel police are the best paid in Guanajuato, with the best life insurance in the country and with a “real closeness” to the interior of the neighborhoods and communities.

He also emphasized the support of the State Government, particularly the Secretary of Public Security Alvar Cabeza de Vaca, as well as the National Guard and the Mexican Army, to lower crime rates in virtually all crimes, despite some media that misrepresent official data.

Regarding the economy, the mayor pointed out that his policy is of local impact and based on reactivating tourism after the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, so that San Miguel residents and their organized guilds, and not only the large transnational corporations, can benefit.

Another important point was the progress in the mobility strategy, mainly in the historic center, where traffic congestion is caused by the tourist service transportation called “turibuses”, as well as public transportation units; for this problem, he presented an integral plan that allows tourist vehicles to also take visitors to see the tourist attractions offered by this World Heritage City, such as the Atotonilco sanctuary, the Cañadade la Virgen archeological zone, the Mirador and other interesting sites for visitors.

He also pointed out that the Municipality’s proposal is that the “turibuses” should be electric and will seek that the taxes collected by the State be used for this purpose, as well as for the renovation of public transportation so that they do not pollute the first part of the city.

Another relevant issue for the foreign community is the supply of drinking water, to which Mauricio Trejo exposed the damage to the aquifers due to the excessive exploitation derived from the uncontrolled growth of at least 300 housing developments. In view of this, he pointed out that the current SAPASMA Board of Directors is dedicated full time to resolving the deficit of the vital liquid, as well as the lack of public services such as sanitary and pluvial drainage, in addition to wastewater treatment plants.
