Gastronomy, music, and quality brands come together in one place at the Millesime GNP event, which has been held for nine years in Mexico City, and this year will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The first edition was held in San Miguel de Allende, where several chefs showed the best of their dishes for the public to taste.

Experts such as Mikel Alonso, Vicente Torres, Ricardo Muñoz Zurita, Pablo Salas, Aquiles Chávez, Julián Martínez, Lula Martin del Campo, Marcelino Castro, to mention just a few, were the guest chefs of this first edition, in which each one had their own stand within the event with the best of their snacks, canapés and special dishes for gastronomy lovers.

Manuel Quintanero Jiménez, general director of Millesime GNP, talked to MILENIO about the importance of taking this gastronomic show to a place outside Mexico City, which could be enjoyed and give the best flavor to the palate of visitors for four days, from May 26 to the closing on Sunday, May 29.

“We have been doing it for nine years now with the main venue in Mexico City, it is a totally different event, there it is more corporate so that more brands are made known and some others continue to position themselves; here we wanted something more social, more familiar, that had a magical environment of the place: San Miguel de Allende has all the charm, customers go from one place to another, from one dinner to another with the various chefs, so the first edition is a very different concept,” the director emphasized in an interview.

“It also has the proximity, it is a very good gastronomic attraction, not only because of the wineries but also because of the number of nationally and internationally renowned chefs, with a mix of chefs with completely different styles, with many types of cuisine, also the levels of trajectory, because many are recognized but also come together with new stars that somehow become known in this type of event, the national and international wine brands and we present the best distillates, so we try to have a mix,” added Manuel.

During the closing day, Mexican chef Aquiles Chávez offered a green sauce flute with hoja santa and barbacoa, chicharrón tostadas placeras with salt-cured nopales, and guacamole, as well as esquites with six types of native corn.

“For me, it is very important to show Hidalgo, which is where I have my restaurant Sotero, the priority is to show the local ingredient and everyone knows the nopales, guacamole, esquites, but making it different is giving it a twist,” said Aquiles.

For him, it is important to highlight the culture and food of our country because, besides the fact that there is a great variety of dishes wherever you go, it is also a tourist attraction for visitors and foreigners.

“As a Mexican chef and having been trained in Mexico, highlighting the national cuisine is the ideal, it is what I like the most, to make it known not only in our country but also abroad. Tasting what is made in Mexico is a great opportunity, besides the fact that we show the richness, the streets, the food is different depending on the region you go to, if you go to Yucatán you will not eat the same as in Mérida, the Bajío or in the south”, he emphasized.

Argentine chef Marcelino Castro presented the best of his restaurant called La Cabrera, in Polanco, Mexico City, so he was happy to be invited to this show of flavors.

“I am happy to be here and show La Cabrera, we brought grilled canapés, some Argentinean Creole meat empanadas with chimichurri, Toast with Morcilla and another with picaña, the truth is very nice everything, we love to be here enjoying this beautiful experience in SMA, which has unique magic”, stressed Marcelino.

Another of the wine brands present was Bornos Bodegas y Viñedos, where Karla Larrañaga and María de Jesús were in charge of tasting the best of their brands to those present, one of the busiest stands in the area.

“We are making more and more effort so that people can get to know our products that are of great quality, we have a value for money, with six Spanish wine cellars of the main appellations of origin of this country such as Ribera del Duero, Rioja Navarra, Rueda, Toro and we gave samples so that they could taste all our products,” Karla told MILENIO.

“We have been here for more than ten years since the first winery Bodega Lleiroso arrived, now a group of five wineries where new labels were added,” she added.

The Mission of the event is to promote the appreciation, knowledge, and dissemination of the most renowned professionals and first-class gastronomic products.
