His name was Alpha, a husky breed dog who on July 29th, was beaten and then tied to the train tracks in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.

A day before, Margarita and Edgar took their dogs for a walk in the area of the Allende dam. Alpha ran to try to play with a herd of sheep. He went into a ranch after the animals, but the ranch owners would not let Alpha out; they claimed he would have injured their chickens.

Margarita and Edgar called the police, but no one arrived.

After holding the dog for more than 12 hours, the owner of the ranch, identified as Miguel Angel Araiza, gave Alpha’s owners the news that he had killed him.

“I told him that we came for Alpha. It was what your wife promised yesterday, Mrs. Ana Laura Perez and she told me your dog is already dead. I killed him, your dog is no longer in this world, do with him as you want and look for him somewhere else.”

Indeed, Alpha appeared cut up on the train tracks.

“When we arrived, I saw 100 meters away my dog cut in half on the train tracks, of course I get out of the truck running and the first thing I do is go and sit down to cry and pet my dog that was cut on the train tracks.”

Edgar and Margarita have already filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, however they are waiting for the investigation file to be completed for aggravated homicide.

“I ask for justice for all those dogs that have no voice and now my motto is “I am your voice Alpha” I am the voice of the dogs that could not do anything and I am the voice of all those people that the government of San Miguel de Allende has not wanted to do anything either…I am not afraid of anything or anyone.”

Hundreds of photos have been posted in support of Alpha. Rescuers and protectors have also spoken out.

“Today the laws already exist, but what we need is that they begin to operate, that they are denounced and that they are followed up, above all we cannot allow impunity, we have to send the signal that those who mistreat will be punished. We have to work on prevention campaigns, raising awareness and educating.”
