The only destination that reported positive figures was San Miguel de Allende, where it was expected to achieve 50% during Holy Week and 35% during Easter Week, and in the end achieved 58% and 43%, respectively.

With the exception of San Miguel de Allende, the rest of the main tourist destinations in the state did not meet the expectations for occupancy during Holy Week and Easter, while the hotel industry reported the closure of at least 23 establishments during the covid-19 pandemic.

In a press conference offered by presidents of hotel associations throughout the state, Juan Pablo Rocha Moreno, leader of the sector in Leon, explained that the goal in this city was to reach between 30 and 35% of average occupancy, but at the end of those 14 days, only 18% was achieved on average during Holy Week, and 21% during Easter Week.

Even last weekend’s Motofiesta did not meet expectations, with an average occupancy rate of 18.5% for the two days it lasted.

“For this event there was a lot of participation of local or regional people; the lodging was not what we expected, we had somehow expectations about this event, but it is understood that the pockets are still somewhat hurt despite the fact that even the average rates are well below what usually used to increase,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president of the Association of Hotels and Motels of Guanajuato City, Luis Espinoza, pointed out that the occupancy rate for Easter and Easter Week was 45% and 30%, respectively, while in Silao it was 25%.

The only destination that reported positive figures was San Miguel de Allende, where it was expected to achieve 50% during Holy Week and 35% during Easter Week, and in the end it achieved 58% and 43%, respectively.

Similarly, each president reported the number of hotels closed in their respective municipalities: nine in Leon, eight in Guanajuato City, five in Silao, and one in San Miguel de Allende.
