By doubling the number of Christmas Eve flowers this year and hanging thousands of brass stars, the Municipal Government of San Miguel de Allende adorned its public spaces for these holidays.

As made visible by the municipal president Mauricio Trejo, “The Best Small City in the World” is being embellished with Christmas decorations both in the historic center, as well as road accesses, urban parks and common areas of traditional neighborhoods, popular neighborhoods and several rural communities.

“We are going to beautify the public spaces of the historic center: the first painting, Main Garden, (the atriums in the temples of) San Francisco, Oratory, Civic Square, Benito Juárez Park, Zeferino Gutiérrez Park, the square that is on Hidalgo Street and different places. We are also planting Christmas Eve flowers in all traditional neighborhoods of San Miguel, such as: San Luis Rey, Santa Julia, Malanquín, Infonavit Allende, La Luz, Ignacio Ramírez and we will also bring Christmas Eve flowers to different communities: Jalpa, Galvanes, Cruz del Palmar, Los Rodríguez, La Talega, among others. The Exit to Celaya, Calzada de la Estación, Salida Real to Querétaro will also have their share of Christmas Eve (flowers)” said Alejandro Castro, director of Environment and Sustainability,

When the holidays end, being living beings, Christmas Eve flowers will be used to rescue the seed that allows their reproduction in the Municipal Nursery, as well as for organic waste that will fertilize all public spaces with green areas of the Sanmiguelense territory.

“Here there is no garbage, everything is organic waste, everything is taken to the Municipal Nursery, what can be rescued: it is rescued and what is not, is reintegrated into its biological cycle to make compost and this serves to fertilize our parks and our gardens” added Alejandro Castro.

The municipal official added that the Directorate of Environment and Sustainability receives organic waste all year round and not only at the end of these New Year’s Eve holidays.

Another distinctive element of the decoration that this year beautifies this World Heritage city is the sanmiguelense crafts, with more than 3,000 brass stars, handmade by local talent.

These unique pieces, along with hundreds of waterfalls of light, already shine in all the streets that connect with the Main Square and were illuminated with the Monumental Christmas Tree, which was lit by the municipal president Mauricio Trejo before thousands of sanmiguelenses on December 2.

“We have focused a lot on the issue of image. The same (inhabitants and artisans) locals feel grateful for having this work of being able to make these stars for the Municipality and tourists and visitors love to see these pieces in the streets, photographs are taken there and what better than to use crafts made in San Miguel de Allende for the same decoration “stressed Tania Castillo, Director of Economic Development, International Relations and NGOs.

With a December decoration worthy of its people, the Municipal Government continues to promote the beauty of “The Best Small City in the World” and consolidates itself as a favorite destination for tourism, since it is the Ambassador of Guanajuato in Mexico and the world, because it is better every day.
