Viñedo San Miguel won two medals at the Lyon International Competition, a competition that has established itself in France and internationally as a guarantee of quality by awarding prizes to the best wines in the world.

This year, Viñedo San Miguel adds to its list of awards 17 medals in international competitions. Surrounded by a dry temperate climate with slightly warm summers and cool winters that allow the vines to rest in preparation for the next vegetative cycle, it is the ideal place for the harvest.

The winning wines of Viñedo San Miguel were “Syrah 2021” with a Gold medal and “Blend Reserva 2018” with a Silver medal. Both wines were awarded in March 2023 in this competition organized under the patronage of Toques Blanches Lyonnaises and the Association des Sommeliers Lyonnais et Rhône-Alpes, and validated by the General Directorate of Competition, Consumption and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF – Ministry of Economy and Finance).

Lyon, famous for being the capital of the senses and taste, logically hosts the selection of the world’s best products. The enthusiasm is undeniable, with 10,275 samples tasted, 48 countries represented, and millions of products valued with medals in 2023.

In this competition, each jury table comprises wine professionals: winemakers, sommeliers, wine merchants, brokers, producers, chefs, and enlightened amateurs (members of tasting clubs, international journalists, and bloggers), who verify compliance.

Each taster blinds scores the wines individually and then comparatively. The wine is analyzed according to several criteria: visual, olfactory, gustatory, and overall harmony. It is then evaluated using a scoring table.

The Secretariat of Tourism invites wine lovers to visit this innovative wine tourism project that has 14 thousand vines and 13 varieties of grapes which are selectively harvested with manual pruning, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay, among others.

Viñedo San Miguel offers visitors the San Bartolo experience: guided tour of the winery, walk through the vineyard, tasting of three wines in the tasting area; Petriolo Experience: guided tour of the winery, walk through the vineyard, tasting of four wines in the tasting area and a cheese and cold meat platter; and San Miguel Experience: guided tour of the winery, walk through the vineyard, tasting of five wines, tasting of five snacks by Chef David Quevedo paired with five wines.

Tourists can also enjoy 1,800 olive trees and appreciate the lavender bushes.

Viñedo San Miguel is located in the heart of Guanajuato on the Comonfort – San Miguel de Allende highway, 15 minutes from downtown, making it the closest vineyard to the city that has been listed as a “World Heritage Site”, “Best City in the World” by Condé Nast Traveler and “Best City in Latin America” by Travel + Leisure.
