Water, that precious resource that seems infinite is not, it is not ours either, it belongs to your children and grandchildren, that is, future generations. But, what are we going to leave, if today this vital liquid is running out?

Of the 1309 wells officially registered in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, 107 million cubic meters of water per year are authorized to be extracted, sucked, taken out, that is, 293 thousand cubic meters per day, something like 12 thousand cubic meters per hour and to raise awareness, this is equal to 203 thousand liters of water every second. All according to official figures. But, do you believe that there are only 1309 registered wells in the municipality? No, most probably there are at least 600 more, you see how corruption is.

In the accounts of what SAPASMA extracts from its 20 wells, the data says that they are between 9.4 million cubic meters per year. But using their own information and CONAGUA’s records, the figure could be 14.3 million. Where is the difference? It is not known, there is no public information on the permits, feasibilities and other regulations that are the job of SAPASMA; it could be in the wells of the communities, we should not be wrong, should we? This also tells us that approximately 87% of the water from all these wells is for agricultural use, which is a huge waste.

But here comes the complicated part, Engineer Jorge Zavala said, in the meeting with the idols of the moment, the honest and hardworking people of the Obraje neighborhood, that each Fraccionamiento (real estate development, -more or less words-) “that to authorize its construction, the construction of a well is required”, imagine then, how bad the situation is, yesterday the data that I circulated in networks, was that there are 373 fraccionamientos, does this mean that there are 373 new wells to finish with the little water that we have left? And the drought conditions and climate change do not allow us to make the famous Aquaférico Independencia a reality, that of sucking water at the edge of the dam, guaranteeing abundance for the next 40 years, sorry they already said 30 or 20, is going to require more than love for San Miguel, no offense to anyone.
