Who has not tasted the delicacies that are offered all year round in front of the Oratory, we are talking about those delicacies that the women of the communities of San Miguel de Allende collect in the fields to prepare in their kitchen and add their personal seasoning, and then sell them there.

In these times of pandemic they never went to the enclosure, they were always there at the Oratorio, although now because of the situation, they are only allowed to sell two days a week.

This Friday it was the turn of Josefina, María González and Rosa from the community of Peña Blanca, as well as Laura and her father, who are from San Antonio de la Joya.

Laura and her father have cheeses such as cottage cheese and ranchero, also gorditas de horno, these are made of corn with piloncillo, and some raw quelites and purslane to take away and cook at home.

While the ladies of Peña Blanca have gorditas, corn tortillas and huaraches, wheat gorditas, tamales, avocados and raw nopalitos. And different stews such as: Vitualla, fried rice, chiles rellenos, nopalitos picadillo with onion, cilantro and tomato.

And how have you been doing with the pandemic?

“It sells very little, we almost don’t even get what we put in, you can see that the sack of corn is very expensive, they give it to us at $370 pesos, there are times when we have fat bags left, and what are they good for, they are already wasted, a lot of merchandise goes to waste,” said Doña Rosa.

Visit the little market in front of the Oratorio and try one of these delicacies that only the women of the communities of San Miguel have to offer.
