On July 30, the colors and sounds of folkloric dance from Nuevo León, Nayarit, and Sinaloa will be on the program of the 46th anniversary of the Representative Folkloric Ballet of San Miguel. It will perform over one year after its last performance, in early 2020. This year the dancers will celebrate the anniversary and will pay tribute to the woman who directed the troupe for 26 years—Gabriela Rodríguez (RIP).

Atencion spoke with the founder of the dance group, Gloria Rodríguez Navarrete. She said that she is happy to have formed a new group of 50-something-year-old women—“Flor Renaciente”—that will also participate in the celebratory event with a dance-related to the Candelaria Fair. Gloria noted that their dresses were inspired by the parish of San Miguel Arcángel as well as by jacaranda flowers. Members of the children’s group will dance as guest performers and will execute typical Nuevo León dances. Adult dancers will demonstrate the sounds and movements from coastal Nayarit and Nayarit Mestizo. Among the rhythms is the Jarabe Nayarita, a dance that integrates machetes and turns that require that the dancers have a focus point.

The event will take place at the Angela Peralta Theater, which can accommodate 150 people. Health protocols will be observed. Tickets (suggested donation, 100 pesos) will be available at the theater box office on the day of the event. The event will be Friday, July 30, at 7 pm.
