The city of San Miguel de Allende captivates visitors from all over the world for its tourist activity, with thousands of visitors arriving every year.

This municipality has the most luxurious hotels in the state, which can charge up to a thousand dollars per night.

One of them is the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende Hotel, which is described as follows: “Located in the historic heart of San Miguel de Allende, the hotel’s 67 rooms and suites reflect the rich viceregal heritage and charming spirit of this cosmopolitan city where art and culture are found on every corner you walk.”

A two-bed colonial room per night at this site can cost between 13,000 and 16,000 pesos approximately.

“These cozy yet spacious rooms evoke a beautifully decorated hacienda: they offer elegant accommodations for a stay in San Miguel de Allende. Featuring local art, each room has 570 square feet (53 m2) of space, a choice of one king or two queen beds, and a beautiful bathroom with a bathtub. The covered balcony is perfect for sipping a cocktail, stargazing, and soaking up the atmosphere of this extraordinary place,” their website reports.

A deluxe colonial room can cost between 14,000 and 18,000 pesos, including taxes, while a deluxe suite can cost between 22,000 and 30,000 pesos approximately, including taxes.

The rooms have an interior of 60 square meters. They are decorated in the traditional style of San Miguel, a mixture of Spanish and Mexican designs from the 16th century, according to the information provided.

They also feature hardwood floors and beamed ceilings and a stone fireplace. It features a furnished terrace and lovely views of the hotel’s trails or out onto the magnificent gardens.

“Inspired by the interior decor of a Spanish hacienda with 50 square meters of interior, the colonial rooms are the simplest rooms in the hotel, offering furnishings.”

According to the Best Day portal, the price of a room at the Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada hotel is over seven thousand 800 pesos.

The hotel has two gourmet restaurants offering international cuisine with Mexican specialties. The spa service and heated outdoor pool will provide an unparalleled experience of the Art of Mexican Hospitality, it is reported.

Room service is provided during limited hours. Guests can relax in a tranquil setting inside the lobby and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace. For added peace of mind, the hotel has security.

Hotel Matilda has prices from approximately nine thousand pesos, in deluxe rooms, to around 20 thousand pesos per night.

The latter is an elegant and spacious suite with flat-screen cable TV and iPod docking station. It also has four-poster beds and luxury bedding. The private bathroom includes a deep oversized bathtub, a walk-in rain shower, Pineda Covalin toiletries, a bathrobe, and slippers, reports Booking.

    SMA WITH MORE LUXURY HOTELS

According to figures from the state Ministry of Tourism, San Miguel de Allende is the municipality with the most five-star hotels in Guanajuato, with a total of 69, followed by the capital, Guanajuato, with 26.

Cities such as Leon have nine five-star hotels, Celaya has two, and Irapuato has two.

In the first quarter of 2022, the state of Guanajuato received 4.7 million visitors (tourists + excursionists), generating an estimated economic revenue of more than nine thousand 974 million pesos.

In March, 227,777 occupied rooms were registered statewide, showing a variation of 39% compared to the previous year, showing an increase of 17% with respect to the rooms occupied in February 2022.

“THE PROFILE OF THE TOURIST IS THE ONE THAT MAKES IT MORE EXPENSIVE”.

According to hotel businessman Eduardo Bujaidar in San Miguel de Allende five-star hotels do not sell a stay in a room, but a concept.

He pointed out that the profile of visitors makes hotel rooms in the municipality more expensive.

“You are talking about a concept. You are paying for glamour. There, what is worth less are the beds and the water you spend bathing. In San Miguel de Allende what you pay for is the environment, the theme, not the room itself.”

Founding director of the International Balloon Festival and founding director of the State Tourism Council, Bujaidar said that, in contrast, in cities like León, Celaya, and Irapuato, tourism is business tourism.

“In León, people look to economize, and they look for administrative services. It is a business issue, and in San Miguel, it is a pleasure issue.

“The profile of the people is different. People are the ones who make the rooms more expensive. To say that you are next to Luis Miguel’s table is to upload it to your social networks,” he said.
