San Miguel de Allende stands out as a municipality that supports sport, an example of this was the cycling competition “Cronoescalada 2023”, which was held for the second time with the aim of promoting the development of young people in this sporting discipline.

This competition was held at the Calderón dam, where the municipal agency provided the space for the event, which included a mountain climb to Palo Huérfano, in cross-country style.

Great athletes from Celaya, Dolores Hidalgo, Comonfort, and Querétaro participated in this event, which resulted in a highly competitive level and great satisfaction in the event.

“It is our first event of the year, the Chronoescalada, we hope to start with very good events this year, we bring very good projects (…) the competition is very crowded,” said José Cruz González, director of Comude.

    Olympic cyclists participated
Among the competitors, two Olympic cyclists were present: Fabiola Corona and Gerardo Ulloa, who commented that San Miguel de Allende is unique in Mexico, as it has very demanding and pleasant spaces for this variable of cycling. More than 70 cyclists participated on behalf of the municipality.

“There are no mountain bike time trial competitions of this kind in Mexico, it’s very rare, it’s a very interesting race,” said Fabiola Corona, an athlete from Jalisco and an Olympic competitor for Mexico in Beijing 2008.

Like Fabiola, cyclist Gerardo Ulloa has a great sporting record, as he was an Olympic competitor in Tokyo 2020+1 and has a gold medal at the Pan American Games in Lima 2019, Cross Country category.
