Many thousands of children living in rural and urban areas of Mexico face a range of threats to their health and well-being. Many communities lack adequate doctors, dentists, emergency facilities and medical equipment and supplies. In an ideal world, every child would be able to count on dental care, preventive health care, emergency care, nutritional resources and psychological support. But regrettably, it’s rare that most communities can identify what each child needs and respond with appropriate care in a timely manner. a Patronato Pro Niños (PPN) aims to fill the many gaps in care by sending mobile clinics into the countryside. On Tuesday, April 20th, Rotarian Nory Contractor, the Executive Director of PPN discussed the challenges facing the health of Mexico’s children and educate us about the ways that communities can mobilize to address these complex needs. The challenges are especially daunting during the viral pandemic that has swept the world for over a year.

As Mexico acknowledges the overarching needs of children on International Children’s Day, Contractor will offer a broad view of what children need both socially and medically—from their families, their schools, from health care providers and community members. She’ll share areas of increasing health threat to children as well as some encouraging health trends. She will discuss opportunities to increase public awareness so that all citizens can be part of expanding the well-being of children.
