  • The facilities of the Hospice House in San Miguel de Allende will be the first palliative care center in the country

    Published January 1, 2024

Through the joint work of the Municipality of San Miguel de Allende with the Organized Civil Society, the first stone of the Hospice House (palliative care center) is already in place, which will improve the quality of life of the terminally ill inhabitants.

With this care center for people in the terminal phase, in charge of the civil association Mitigare Palliative Care, Mayor Mauricio Trejo, fulfilled his word to make this dream come true for the people of San Miguel, born or settled in this World Heritage city.

The mayor said that the population will benefit from this work, which will begin to be built this year.

“It’s going to be a house where they’re going to help and take care of people who have nothing, or anyone to help them get through their last moments in life and there’s no charge. It is one of the most humanitarian, beautiful, and beautiful actions that has been carried out between civil society and the government. It’s going to be a hospice home so that people who don’t have loved ones to accompany them in the process of going from life to death, can take that leap with one hand grasping theirs. That is the most beautiful thing I have done in these two years of government,” said Mauricio Trejo.

The Hospice House in San Miguel de Allende will make history in Mexico by being the first palliative care center in the country and will position San Miguel de Allende as the first municipality with this public, free and quality service in favor of people with terminal illness.

In context, this work is also a product of the fight against corruption of previous governments, since it is built on one of the lands that was illegally sold by the Municipal Administration 2018-2021 that was recovered by the current Government of San Miguel and that, thanks to the efforts of the current Administration, was donated for this cause.

“This is one of the lands that we have come to recover, this land was recovered through criminal complaints and today it can be a great work that takes care of the people I am talking about, who need to pass to a better life, but accompanied by someone. This is the example of how corruption leaves us without the opportunity to carry out this type of action, but also a clear example that if we all act in a right way and conserve the land that belongs to the Municipality, it can be lent or donated on loan to this type of association that will help all the people of San Miguel,” stressed Mauricio Trejo.

For this construction, the first stage is scheduled for July 2024, while the second stage will be completed in 2025.

“Mitigare Hospice is a fast, transparent and legal work that demonstrates the positive results of the joint work between the Government of San Miguel and non-governmental organizations (NGOs),” explained the mayor.
