Ever since movies arrived in Mexico, they have become one of the favorite activities for families, friends or to enjoy with that special person. Currently, we have accessibility of movies that offer an entire experience for everyone, from the youngest to the oldest member of the family. If you love film productions this will interest you because here in San Miguel you can find the magic of the big screen in an even more fun and special way—outdoors! There is a spot on Calzada de la Estación which is an ideal place to enjoy a good movie away from the hustle and bustle of the central area. The space has been conditioned beautifully to project a variety of movies every week. Some of them are acclaimed by critics, others apt for the entire family, and some specifically focused on the queens and kings of the home—the children. Cinematographic Compartment is an organization composed of a group of people who seek to provide a unique experience to the local population and visitors. It serves as a meeting point where people can enjoy cinema as a shared cultural experience.

Currently, Compartimento Cinematográfico presents a curated film program with two daily screenings from Wednesday to Saturday. One of the major attractions are the outdoor screenings that take place every Wednesday. Nina Rodríguez, one of the organizers of the film complex, shares that “in addition to providing access and projection to Mexican cinema, we also program foreign films that do not reach commercial theaters in the area.” The project is interesting because it is enriched with films from all over the world. These are not only the commercially successful ones, but some films that you will hardly find anywhere else. Another plus is the children’s cinema, which has been very well received by the children of San Miguel. “We are very excited with the great response we have had from our smallest audiences, so we will continue with children’s programming every Wednesday at 6:30 pm on our outdoor screen (come bundled up!) and on Saturdays at 5pm indoors. In this program we currently present a special selection of animated short films for the whole family,” Nina shares.

The indoor cinema is inside the Mezcal-Art facilities, located at Calzada de la Estación 59, next to the Immigration offices. It serves as a meeting place where all Sanmiguelenses can approach the art of cinema and experience movies in a unique way in San Miguel.
