Guanajuato will be betting on the production of solar energy due to the fact that the state is ranked number five in the country with the highest solar radiation, said the Secretary of Environment and Land Management, Maria Isabel Ortiz Mantilla, in an interview.
“We are the fifth state with the highest solar irradiation in the country, that is to say, we have an enormous potential and I believe that we all feel it these days with greater reason, but even in winter we feel the sun and we have areas with a very important wind energy potential,” she said.
Currently, in Guanajuato there are three solar parks already installed; two of them located in the northeast of the state in San Luis de la Paz and one more in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende. The three are part of the 14 clean energy production projects that the state government will be promoting.
“These 14 projects emerged from the auction that were detonated from the energy reform from 2013 to 2015, these had a certain degree of progress different each one, they have been identified, the vast majority are solar,” he said.
Along with the creation of solar parks for the production of energy, the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning said that it will be promoting the photovoltaic system for the generation of electricity from solar energy in government buildings and public institutions.
In this sense, he specified that in Guanajuato 1,70 thousand photovoltaic modules have been installed in 16 State Government buildings, 26 elementary schools, and 1 high school.
“This type of measures and impulse that we have generated as an administration has made us, in terms of distributed generation, that is, this small-scale generation in just two years we have gone from 12th place to fifth place nationally, we will continue to promote this,” said the secretary.
Just last week this system was launched in the facilities of the Ministry of Tourism; in total, there are 117 modules that make up this system that will be generating up to 200-megawatt hours per year, equivalent to 55 or 65 percent of the total energy consumed in the building.
The state official said that as Guanajuato is the fifth entity in the country with the highest solar radiation, it has a high potential for the generation of clean energy.
“We do not go by the municipality, we also go by location, that is to say, it is not the same the irradiation that is generated perhaps in some areas where you are in the mountains to that which is generated in an urban area, then I could not classify it by municipalities, it is something much more particularized”, she concluded.
The head of the SMAOT finally said that energy sustainability will continue to be promoted since this way it seeks to reduce the generation of polluting emissions.
