Citizens join the “rescue of the Allende Dam”.

More than 50 volunteers led by Audubon de México, Amigos de la Presa and the Rotaract Club San Miguel de Allende, joined together on Sunday to help in the removal of water lilies from the Presa Allende.

At 8 am the volunteers gathered in the Otomí area to join in the cleanup of the Presa Allende, first the process of the removal was explained to them and they were given waterproof boots and tools for the removal of the water lilies thanks to a donation from Ferreteria Don Pedro.

For more than 5 hours, the volunteers carried out the removal of the water lily on the shore of the Allende Dam, placing the plant in a dry area so that it could dehydrate naturally.

They are confident that in the next campaigns more citizens will join in this problem that affects the fishermen of the area and will affect the farmers of the Bajío as the water level decreases.

The percentage of damage to Presa Allende caused by the water lily is not known at this time, however, the organized citizens, supported by the authorities of the three levels of government, are seeking to control the pest to give a “breather” to Presa Allende.
