The municipal government started the “temporary employment” program, which provides equipment and support to fishermen in the area to carry out the work of removing the lirio aquatic plant from the Allende dam.

Under the supervision and coordination of the Directorate of Environment and Sustainability, work began last Friday to remove the lirio aquatic plant in the Allende dam in the first cleaning stage with the help of 150 families.

In order to provide economic income for the families of the fishermen who have been affected by this plague, the Municipal Government granted a temporary employment program to five of the fishermen’s committees from different neighboring communities in the area, who received the necessary material and equipment, consisting of 150 pairs of boots, 150 fishing rods, and 47 wheelbarrows.

The activity to combat the water lily is a first step on the part of the Municipality, through a pilot plan that will be carried out during the months of December, January, and February, since during this winter season and the beginning of the new year, the weather and the decrease in the levels of the dam represent an advantage for the elimination of the pest.

The Direction of Environment and Sustainability specifies that if the organized civil society wants to participate and support in the fight against the lirio, they should do it hand in hand with the fishermen, since they know the situation and the possible risks, and thus avoid an accident.
