In Guanajuato, we proudly celebrate the grape harvest, a fruit that, in production, places the state in 4th place nationally. This weekend, Dos Búhos and Toyan vineyards raised their glasses in celebration of their wine industry.

Viñedo Toyan and Dos Búhos, located in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, commemorated their harvests last Saturday with tastings, tours of their vineyards, themed dinners, and live music, respecting the health protocol of the Ministry of Health.

This year, the Ministry of Tourism of the state of Guanajuato promotes and publicizes wine, vineyards, routes, grape harvests, and ecotourism products through the strategy “Guanajuato, Land of Wines”, with the objective of reactivating this activity in Guanajuato’s destinations, which today have an annual production of 700,000 bottles.

Dos Búhos, an organic vineyard and family winery that produces artisanal wines, is a pioneer of organic viticulture in the state of Guanajuato, which began in early 2005, being one of the first to believe in the vines and wine in the state.

“There are only 2 certified organic vineyards in the country, by Oregon Tilth, and one of them is Dos Búhos vineyard, which means that in the field there are no pesticides, chemicals or anything alien to nature; therefore, the wine that reaches your table is free of chemicals,” said Lucero Lagarde, manager of Dos Búhos.

As part of its harvest, Dos Búhos -open to the public Monday through Friday from 12:00 noon, and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, with prior reservation- inaugurated an immersive contemplative art space, with the work entitled “El Bosque”, by artist Víctor Zapatero, which invites reflection on what has been done to planet Earth.

The Toyan vineyard surprised the attendees with its “medieval harvest” and its cellar, the deepest in the entity with more than 14 meters deep, where the wines are aged.

This vineyard is a “place full of mysticism and energy. Our wines are made in an artisanal way that combines with the medieval architecture that envelops the visitor in a totally different experience,” said Martha Molina, owner of Toyan.

Visitors can visit this space – from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. – “underground, which gives us an experience that takes us back to medieval times,” she added.

Guanajuato is a national leader in wine tourism and “we want to celebrate it with you through the Vendimias. We invite you to consult the complete program on the website www.guanajuato.mx,” said Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Guanajuato’s Secretary of Tourism.
