“Day of the Dead Festival” in the Jardin Principal

We are a few days away from receiving our deceased and little angels, to pay tribute to them.  The Directorate of Culture and Traditions of San Miguel de Allende are organizing two days of activities for the day of the dead, in which the placement of offerings in the Jardin and in some neighborhoods of the city, including a ritual, a universal prayer, a play, a ballet, a Mexican concert, a parade of Catrinas and wonderful fireworks.

Offerings will be placed around the Jarden and in some neighborhoods of San Miguel, in addition the Aguascalientes Brothers will be presented in concert and  fireworks.

Program

Monday, November 1

– Placement of offerings in some neighborhoods of the city (colonies such as: Valle del Maíz, San Juan de Dios, Allende and San Rafael will participate), dedicated to the deceased of different moments of local history.

– 7:30 p.m. Parade of Catrinas. Accompanied by wind band, it leaves Cardo Street and continues along Ancha de San Antonio Street, Zacateros, Umarán, until reaching the Main Garden. With special participation of Rancho Labradores.

Tuesday, November 2 (all activities are in the Jardin)

– 3:00 p.m. / Placement of offerings in the East and West streets of the main square. (These will be done from the morning by some schools and associations).

The program will start at 5:00pm a program “that is not so much cultural but  more than anything traditional and a little religious,” shared the director of  culture and traditions, Acacio Martínez, “because this is the commemoration of  the day of the dead, the day of the dead is a merely religious concept, which  became with all our cultural development, something interesting has been  formed and that is what we now have but this has a religious origin,” he said.

– 5:30 p.m. / “In Mexico death is alive”. Classical Ballet Group of the teacher Selene García.

– 6:15 p.m. / “Engravings of J. Guadalupe Posada”. Cornisa Theatre Group 20.

– 7:00 p.m. / Reception of thematic floral tablos that present the  neighborhoods and placement of them on the railing of the atrium of the Parish.

– 7:30 p.m. / Ritual of Concheros del Valle del Maíz.

8:00 p.m. / Solemn Responso: Ecumenical Prayer for all the deceased with the participation of ministers of various cults.

– 8:30 p.m. / Concert of Mexican and international music, by the Aguascalientes Brothers.

– 9:30 p.m. / Pyrotechnics show.

The director pointed out that an inauguration event will not be scheduled, but that in the solemn activity, which is scheduled for the second day of November at 8:00 p.m., there will be formal representation of authority, “because seriousness requires it”, as it is an event in which ministers of different faiths will participate. There will be the bishop of the Americans, there will be the parish priest of the parish of San Miguel Arcángel, the fathers of the Oratory, the father of San Francisco, etc.

“Then a prayer for all the dead, there if there will be a formal representation of authority because seriousness requires it,” he said.
