In the Temple of the Nuns, every August 17th, the Catholic Church celebrates Saint Beatriz de Silva, a Portuguese nun of the 15th century who founded the Order of the Immaculate Conception.

The celebration of the Virgin of Santa Beatriz de Silva, located inside the temple of Las Monjas in San Miguel de Allende, took place with mass, fireworks, and band music, in addition to receiving offerings from the faithful believers.

Every August 17, the celebration is held to commemorate the saint’s decision to found a new monastery, which would become the first headquarters of the Order of the Immaculate Conception.

This Order grew so much that it spread throughout Europe and America, and today, several centuries after its foundation, it is composed of thousands of nuns who live in 150 monasteries throughout the world.

Beatriz was beatified by Pope Pius XI on July 28, 1926. She was later canonized by Pope St. Paul VI on October 3, 1976.
