As already announced, Citigroup will sell Banamex to the highest bidder and one of the unknowns is what will happen with the cultural heritage owned by Citigroup, including the Casa del Mayorazgo on Canal Street in San Miguel de Allende.

According to a note published in Dinero en Imagen, nobody will be able to acquire any of the properties or art pieces because “everything will be sold together” and there will be no sale by parts.

All the artistic patrimony belongs to Banamex and would be in the sale package, which includes its buildings, its stately homes, its art collection, and any other Banamex infrastructure would be included in this disincorporation”, stated Alberto Gómez Alcalá, who is Director of Development and Communication at Citibanamex.

What are Citibanamex’s properties? Here they are:

    • The Iturbide Palace on 17 Francisco I. Madero Street in Mexico City. It was acquired in 1964, restored twice, and reopened as El Palacio de Cultura Banamex in 2004.
    • The Casa Montejo Museum
    • The Palace of the Count of the Valley of Súchil and
    • The Casa del Mayorazgo de la Canal in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
    • It also has a collection of 3,000 pieces of popular art, and nearly 5,000 books and historical documents.
