The main objective of the “Libraries” program of the Center for Adolescents of San Miguel de Allende (CASA A. C.), is to encourage the habit of reading in communities in vulnerable areas.

They do this through three lines of action, the first is the Central Library at the Santa Julia facilities, the second is the “Mobile Library”, where young people go to remote communities and encourage the habit of reading, tell stories and lend books. And a third project called “Street Libraries”, this last one is new, it arose as a result of the pandemic.

“Previously we had 10 libraries inside the schools, but what happened, the pandemic arrived and the schools were closed, right, and with it the libraries inside, for this reason during the pandemic we developed this new project called Street Libraries, which now we took the libraries out of the schools and began to install them in the homes of the mothers who helped us to promote reading inside the schools, that is to say, the reading committees. Now the network has expanded so much that we currently have 25 libraries, but we still need books to reach the 30 that we would like to have, even more if we could, these are the three projects that we manage”, explains Carlos, member of the CASA Libraries group.

They are dedicated to install libraries in remote places of the city with the intention that the children of that area have a place to read and grow up with this beautiful habit. But now they are running out of books, so they are asking people to help them by donating as little as $1.00 pesetas. The intention with the proceeds is to acquire more books to take this project “Bibliotecas Callejeras” to the children of the most vulnerable communities.

For this purpose, they have set up the website https://www.micochinito.com/cochinito/más-Bibliotecas where all the information to make donations is available.

For your donation you can receive anything from a thank you, a video or even a name for one of the libraries, check the description and help them to have more books, more libraries.
