After it was announced that the municipality of Irapuato registered up to 227 cases of scorpion bites out of the 431 cases in the entire state, the Director of Public Health of the State of Guanajuato, Pablo Sanchez Gastelum assured that the cases have been increasing with the arrival of high temperatures.
“We started to have more cases of intoxication due to scorpion stings, we are around 46 thousand cases at the end of the last year 2022, we started now, in these months when it is starting to get hot, it is important for people to know that they should avoid keeping things stored for a long time”, he said.
Pablo Sanchez emphasized that on many occasions there are environments full of furniture or accumulation of articles which can be a perfect place to harbor dangerous animals such as scorpions, spiders, and any other type of dangerous insects.
“Trying to have clean environments above all, generates less risk, if it is about children, do not bring them barefoot during this season, we know that suddenly they feel very hot, they take everything off, they walk barefoot and this can lead to a scorpion bite. In the same way, especially the walls should be of a light color, so that if there are any animals, including scorpions, they can be identified more easily,” said Sánchez Gastelum as a recommendation.
It is also important to mention that the anti-scorpion serum is completely free of charge and is already available in all health units, for all those people who need it to be applied immediately.
He also stressed that it is important not to self-medicate and above all not to use home remedies, since the anti-scorpion serum is much more effective, fast, and free.
“The municipalities most prone to scorpion bites are the most densely populated, Leon is one, and the large municipalities such as Irapuato, and Celaya, are the ones with the highest incidence of intoxication by scorpion bites. The important part is to continue monitoring, if we are increasing in the comparative and well, it is very important for us that people know that the antidote exists, that it is available in all health units and that it is free of charge”, he reiterated.
