Usually festive and bucolic, the city of San Miguel de Allende will be red-carpeting and caravanning during the first edition of the Festival de las Artes de San Miguel de Allende (FASMA), to be held August 4-28, with Germany as the guest of honor.

The debut edition of FASMA will feature more than 70 artistic events ranging from music, dance, theater, and other plastic, auditory and visual artistic expressions.

As part of the activities with a German stamp that will take place, FASMA will begin with the exhibition “La otra mirada” (The Other Look), a group show by German artists living in Mexico: Edda Clasen, Lothar Müller, Ursula Riedel, Josh Rosencraz, Kirsten Schulte and Carlos Tello Nielsen. This exhibition will be open to the public with free admission at Casa Europa’s facilities from August 4 to 28. The official inauguration will be on August 12 at 5:00 p.m., with the presence of authorities from the German Embassy in Mexico.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the death of the creator of “Camina Burana”, Carl Orff, who was born in Munich in 1895 and died in the same city in 1982. In this context, on August 17, also in the facilities of Casa Europa, UNAM San Miguel de Allende will offer the conference “The secret of Carmina Burana” by specialist Gerardo Kleinburg. The appointment is at 11:00 a.m. and access will be free of charge.

The highlights of the German presence at FASMA22 will undoubtedly be the concerts of Carmina Burana by the Promúsica choir of Mexico City – which has just presented this same work at Carnegie Hall in New York – and the choir of the German School, which is celebrating its 65th anniversary, on Friday, August 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ángela Peralta Theater. On Saturday, August 20, also at the Ángela Peralta, they will sing the same work at 12:00 noon in a free concert sponsored by the municipality.

As encore, UNAM San Miguel de Allende presents the concert “El Claro de Beethoven”, by pianist Luis Herman Miranda. The concert will take place on Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Casa Europa.
