  • On September 11th  I had a special event called, “Mexi-Rican Summer of Love”, to celebrate art, culture and life.

This date is considered inauspicious for Americans for it marks the day the New York Twin Towers were attacked and the beginnings of a fear based culture.  Despite this fact, my intent of my event was to bring humanity together fearlessly.

The Piña Colada cocktail hour began at 7:30pm to the sounds of Romeo Santos and Sofi Tukker.  Two  small paintings, “Mexican Viagra” from my current series, CRUSH! and “Virgen with Unicorn” sold to Helen Boehning from San Miguel de Allende. Congradulations to Helen!

About a half hour later, I began my art tour. My art tour is called, “The Myth and Mystery Tour” and normally costs $75 usd per person on Airbnb.  But I wanted to give you, the people of San Miguel and my new brave global guests a gift. The tour lasted about 90 minutes in which I covered 3 series of paintings spanning more than 10 years of my evolution as an artist. During this tour, I spoke about why I left my heart in San Francisco and moved to Mexico. I also revealed some of the secrets behind my art works and the meaning of my contemporary mythology.

At the end, I gave a sneak peek into my latest series in progress called, “Blue Unicorn” in which I introduced the concept of what is a unicorn today. Many expressed their opinions of what they thought a unicorn was. Some said that a unicorn was child imagination and innocence. Others said that the unicorn was technology and science disrupting current symptoms for necessary changes. And in the end of our discussion, someone said that a unicorn exists in each of us, and that if only we believed, we could find it, which was a beautiful spiritual moment of self realization.

For those of you who were unable to attend my event, what does a unicorn mean to you? What do you imagine would be a great painting to do?

The next day, I woke up feeling inspired and began recording your ideas for upcoming unicorn paintings in my sketchbook.  I really needed you to take away my loneliness and uplift me. This is to thank all of you who attended for showing me what the NEW NORMAL is.

    Abrazos,
    Isis Rodriguez
