San Miguel Literary Sala Presents May Writing Workshops

By Dena M. Cruz and Joy Sablatura

Whether you are an experienced writer or a beginner, grab your notepad and pen, fire up your laptop or computer, and join us in these online fun and informative workshops in May:

    1. Narrative Voice: Where Prose Comes Alive

Taught by Amy Gottlieb on May 17 and 19, 3-4:30pm CDT

In this workshop, we’ll explore how voice compels readers with a sense of authenticity, energy, music, character, and confidence. We will look at excerpts that demonstrate how to craft memorable voices that will energize your prose and make your work come alive. You’ll uncover authenticity and vitality in your work.

    1. World Travels and Travel Writing:  Turning One Passion into Another

Taught by Laurie Gough on May 17 and 19, 5:30-7pm CDT

As long as wanderlust exists, the travel essay will never stop appealing to readers who want more than mere information. You will learn how to be an effective travel writer. We’ll discuss ‘finding’ the story; ways to begin; the importance of the quest and we’ll do fun and inspiring writing exercises, sharing our travel experiences through the written word.

    1. Writing for Teens (even if you aren’t one)

Taught by Kat Falls on May 18 and 20, 3-4:30pm CDT

This craft-focused workshop is designed for those who want to learn how to write a Middle Grade or Young Adult novel. This seminar will include writing exercises and is open to experienced writers and enthusiastic beginners. Kat will touch on current and upcoming market trends and how to catch an agent’s eye.

    1. Shamanic Origins of Poetry:  The Deep Magic of Saying

Taught by Judyth Hill on May 18 and 20, 5:30-7pm CDT

Exploring Poetry’s origins, we discover the deep Magic of Saying, a capacity for rare, wild insights, and attentive, musical language. When we write, aware of these roots, our writing ratchets up! We’ll learn ancient techniques of making poems that connect us to the profound, cross-cultural, trans-time and space, Holy Mysteries. Expect some of the most powerful, transformative writing you will ever do.

Tickets: $80. Various packages available. To buy your ticket, go to sanmiguelliterarysala.org.
