Chapatti, by Christian O’Reilly is a heartwarming and poignant work that explores themes of loss, isolation and the transformative power of human connection. The Play has been performed in numerous theaters around the world, including the Northlight Theater in Chicago where it opened in 2014, and the Irish Repertory Theater in New York.
The story revolves around two characters, Dan, a retired construction worker whose only emotional connection is to his dog, Chapatti, and Betty, owner of 19 cats, who has given up on ever finding love. Following a collision at the vet’s office involving the disgorging of 8 kittens from their carry box, the two gradually form a bond which both surprises and discomforts them. Spoiler alert: there is redemption! The play is beautifully written, with witty dialogue and moments of profound insight into the human condition.
Phoebe Greyson directs. Drew Underwood plays Dan and Rosita Larrain plays Betty.
