  • Join Playreaders for  the San Miguel debut of “The Quintessential Quintet”, five short, scintillating plays directed by Marjorie Burren at the Santa Ana Theater on September 21st and 22nd.

Two works, “Cliff Dwellers” and “Essentially Oil” were written by our own David Haddad, a talented playwright who recently moved to San Miguel. David will appear, along with renowned actress Gina Giampaoli, in “Cliff Dwellers,” the story of how the will of a man seeking to face and overcome his fears is tested by what he encounters on the way.

Gina will appear in “Essentially Oil” along with veteran actor Frank Simons, as an indomitable woman hawking products to cure most any ailment. But what is she really selling?

“Bury Me Not” is a work by New York playwright Barbara Litt,  who was also featured in last year’s “Plays on the Patio.” It stars Marjorie Burren a woman whose son, played by Blu McKelvain, is single-focused on finding the “perfect” final resting place for his mother, who is still very much alive.

“A Family Affair” is penned by Albi Gorn, whose plays were also performed here last year. This vignette features parents played by Marjorie Burren and Frank Simons, who are meeting their daughter Gina Giampaoli’s fiancée, Blu McKelvain, for the first time. What could possibly go wrong?

“Last Drinks” is a wry and witty award-winning play by Gregg Gould about a woman, a man and kismet, sharing Last Call at a bar. They are played by Marjorie Burren and Gene Harvey, an up and coming SMA star. Who will you be cheering for?
