UUFSMA Board SecretaryMany people find the biblical story of Easter implausible and dismiss its religious celebration. Nonetheless, universal truths can be found in the Easter story which do not depend upon its literal interpretation. This Easter Sunday service will focus little attention on the miracle described in the New Testament on a hill outside Jerusalem two millennia ago. Instead, UUFSMA Minister Reverend Tom Rosiello will draw upon the Easter narrative as an inspiration for living today.
In this interpretation, Reverend Rosiello will revisit the insight once offered by the late Unitarian Universalist Minister Max Coots, who wrote, “In [each of] us are written… new versions of the old Easter story, the empty tomb, the renewal. We are at least part of what the ancient myth can mean…” UUFSMA member Susan MacDonnell will also share a personal Easter experience that underscores the relevance of the Easter story today.
In this Sunday Service, join the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende for uplifting music, stories, poems, and reflections on the liberal meaning of Easter. Seasonal hymns and music will amplify the celebratory character of the observance of Easter. Yamel Domort, one of Mexico’s finest sopranos, will sing the “Alleluia” from Mozart’s “Exultate Jubilate”. Concert Pianists Paula Peace and Malcolm Halliday will perform together an arrangement for four hands of the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah.
