    Magenta Gallery Opens

    By Patricia Miller

Magenta Gallery will open an exhibit next week featuring the alcohol-ink work of artist Cathy Taylor.

A technique originally developed for the craft industry for use with a felt stamp, alcohol ink has become the newest fine art medium to hit the art community. Wildly colorful, vibrant, and versatile, alcohol ink can be used on a wide variety of surfaces.

Taylor is an award-winning mixed-media artist and popular workshop instructor. She is a Signature member and award winner of both the International Society of Experimental Artists and the National Collage Society.

Known for her ability to interpret a subject in a variety of styles, Taylor is represented in museums, nature centers, and private collections throughout the US and abroad. Her water media artwork is a celebration of the patterns, textures, and color found in the natural environment. She specializes in colorful, detailed, alphabetical designs and whimsical collages and multidimensional abstracts. Her collages were juried into the National Collage Society’s annual exhibition in 2005, 2007, 2011, 2012, and 2013 and some of her work is licensed for use on clothing, textiles, and gift items.

A featured artist on artacademylive.com, Taylor has created two DVD’s—Watercolor Collage and Mixed Media Collage—and is the author of the bestselling book, Pigments of Your Imagination: Creating with Alcohol Inks. Her articles, “Anthologies,” “The Nature of Art,” “Rethink Alcohol Ink,” and “Creative Spirits” were all featured in the magazine Cloth, Paper, Scissors.

A popular workshop instructor, Taylor has been teaching since 1995. Past workshop venues include BIG Arts in Sanibel Florida, the Traverse City Art Center in Michigan, the JC Campbell Folk School in North Carolina, and Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff, also in North Carolina.
