  • On Saturday Ferbruary 5, 2022, artist Andrew Osta will be present for an exhibition of new works at Casa de la Noche, on Organos 19, centro. Known for his versatile yet instantly recognizable style, Andrew Osta paints magical memories of San Miguel, flying mariachis, iconic figures and faces, and of course cats. Since his move to Oaxaca four years ago, the artist comes to exhibit in San Miguel several times a year.

Originally from Ukraine, Andrew has also lived in Canada, South Korea, and Peru. He moved to San Miguel de Allende in 2010 and worked closely with fellow Canadian painters Toller Cranston and Marion Perlet. The simplicity and whimsy of Mexican reality stole his heart, inspiring him to begin painting whimsical compositions involving street animals. The rest is history. Now, over 400 of Andrew’s works are to be found in private and public collections all over the world.

Apart from painting, Andrew has authored four books, available on Amazon. His artwork graced Grammy nominated composer Michael Hoppe’s 2018 release, Amistad, and he has written the lyrics to Hoppe’s forthcoming song “Love is the Answer.” He has exhibited his paintings in two museum shows in Durango, Mexico and in San Remo, Italy.

Andrew welcomes visitors to his studio in Oaxaca, but appointments should be made ahead of time by calling or texting 415 139 5169. In San Miguel, his work can be seen in Hecho en Mexico (Ancha de San Antonio #8), Lolita (Salida a Celaya 52), and Dila’s (Mercado Sano).

The month-long show at Bordelo Galeria  on Organos 19 will open on Saturday 5-8 PM. During the month, doors will be open to visitors anytime during daytime hours to see and purchase work – just stop by and ring the bell. So, mark your calendar on February 5, for a visit to the Bordello Galeria at Casa de la Noche, Organos 19, and meet Andrew Osta, the man behind the Cats (and dogs and flying people and houses that smile).

The event will also benefit the Mujeres en Cambio charity, whose objective is to foster the independence, education, and enhanced quality of life of girls from poor rural villages surrounding San Miguel de Allende
