Día del Abuelos/Grandparents’ Day - August 28, 2025

Grandparents’ Day was celebrated in Mexico for the first time in 1983. This day coincides with the day of St. Joachim and St. Anne according to Christian tradition, they were the parents of the Virgin Mary and, therefore, the grandparents of Jesus.

The day of these two saints is July 26, however, in Mexico Grandfather’s Day is celebrated on August 28 each year. This celebration has its roots in diverse cultures and countries, and seeks to highlight the wisdom, experience and love that grandparents bring to younger generations.
