The music producer and composer David Foster, who has trained and produced artists such as Josh Groban and Celine Dion, winner of 16 Grammy Awards, has this to say about tenor Enrique de Allende: “The interpretations of Enrique de Allende bristle your skin. It is an experience that penetrates your ears and connects you with universal contemporary music, with a romantic, classical style, but with a youthful touch. It’s the new Julio Iglesias, with a sweet but powerful voice.”

Though Enrique was born in San Miguel, his career has taken off so rapidly that San Miguel audiences have seen little of him in recent years. He made a guest appearance last March at Bellas Artes for cabaret singer Mark Hartman’s tribute to Noel Coward and Cole Porter, and brought the house down. But mainly he’s been touring, and in 2023 he will begin a yearlong residency in Europe.

Fortunately, in the Miguel Malo auditorium at Bellas Artes on Saturday, December 10, at 7pm, he is giving a concert called Enrique de Allende Sings Andrea Bocelli; and apart from two obligatory Christmas numbers, he will sing many vocal gems from Bocelli’s repertoire, from opera to romantic songs in Italian, English, and Spanish. The concert may include a special guest or two as well.

His accompanist will be the Cuban-born pianist Gabriel Hernández. Maestro Hernández recently appeared at Bellas Artes in a concert with flutist Ricardo Benítez, and is considered one of the most talented jazz pianists now living in central Mexico.

Reserved seat tickets are 600, 500, 400 pesos, and can be purchased by clicking either of the “Buy Tickets” buttons in this newsletter; or online at boletocity.com; or at the Boleto City ticket office on the ground floor of Mercado Sano, Ancha de San Antonio 123, Monday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm.

Bellas Artes / El Nigromante Cultural Center

This beautiful former monastery of La Concepción church was converted into a fine-arts school in 1938. Don’t miss the murals of Pedro Martínez, plus the Siqueiros Room, which features the extraordinary unfinished mural by David Alfaro Siqueiros (it plays with your mind – we won’t spoil the surprise). The rest of the gallery holds temporary exhibitions.   It is located less than 5 minutes from the main square in Street Hernandez Macias that parallels Hidalgo street which leads right in the Main Garden. It is walking through this beautiful area worth, visit its art galleries and get you some photos on your patio or in one of the arches of the first floor, but if you are thinking that the arts are your thing you can consider it as a study center for you because it is a nationally recognized school.
