  • The moving Les Sept Paroles du Christ  (In English “The Seven Last Words of Christ”) by the nineteenth century French composer Théodore Dubois depicts in music the last words Jesus uttered during his crucifixion. This dramatic and powerful setting is scored for large chorus, soloists and a chamber orchestra of strings, oboe, flute, timpani, harp and organ.  Soloists include soprano Maribel Salazar, tenor Jesús Palato and the San Miguel baritone Daniel Sandoval. The Chorale is joined by La Camerata de la Nueva España from Guanajuato. The consummate work for Holy Week, this performance will be on March 30, Sábado de Gloria (Holy Saturday) at 12 noon. The program will last an hour (without an intermission) and finish close to 1:00 PM.

Chorale San Miguel is presenting concerts in large choral format, principally Masses, Oratorios, a cappella works, and choral and orchestral compositions from four centuries. Our venue is the historic Tercera Orden in the San Francisco convent complex, dating from the early 17th century, with excellent acoustics for choral music.

The Chorale is comprised of a core group of 32 auditioned singers, of whom a significant portion are professional singers, joining forces with talented area volunteer choral singers.

Auditions will be held periodically to augment the size of the chorus according to programming and performance needs for future concerts.

The Chorale draws on local and regional participants, including orchestra musicians from regional professional orchestras in Guanajuato and Queretaro.

Artistic Director is Malcolm Halliday, with conducting roles shared with Mauro Ledesma.
