I am so excited to have been able to arrange for this outstanding group of Cuban women to come and play in San Miguel after performing in Guanajuato at the Cervantino.

I met Zenaida Romeu and stayed at her house in La Havana on a couple of trips there.  She comes from 4 generations of musicians and is an icon in Cuba!

My friends in Cuba have told me how desperate the situation is there: very little food and no medicine, and Zenaida tells me that some of her musicians have been surviving on two meager meals a day.

My friend Jimmy and I are taking care of all expenses for the group during their 2 day in SMA and we will make sure that the money from the concert will go to them.  The Casa Europa has been generous and very supportive.

I am asking people who might not be going to the concert and want to help to put together “care packages” for those young women to take back to Cuba for their family and friends: Canned food, power bars, toiletries, feminine napkins, medicines… things that are easy to pack, not too heavy…. There is nothing to buy there. I can collect things in my house and will distribute them to the women. Of course cash is also welcome!
