What can Mexico contribute toward climate solutions?  Two key areas are solar energy and regenerative agriculture.  Diana Hoogesteder of Via Organica will discuss how intelligent farming practices can regenerate depleted soil while capturing carbon from the atmosphere and sinking it in the ground.  Current common factory farming practices are adding to carbon that is warming the planet and jeopardizing the long range ability to feed the world’s population.  Regenerative agriculture can reverse these suicidal trends.
Mexico also has an abundance of solar energy that can be harnessed to generate electricity.   Currently most electricity is produced from oil, which the country also has in abundance.  But if Mexico is to meet its responsibility to help mitigate climate change, it needs to convert massively away from polluting oil to clean solar and wind energy.  Our second panelist, Enrique Caldera, has worked for the Mexican government in this area for decades.  He will discuss the energy reform that the country needs.

What we do The Center engages in local community support and outreach to promote and advance initiatives and movements toward social justice, grassroots empowerment and democracy, and environmental sustainability.  It is also devoted to critical analysis of the processes and impacts of globalization, both local and international. The Center works to develop alternative socio-economic systems that conserve and share the world’s cultural, economic, and environmental resources for the benefit of humankind.
