Inspired by the true story Herman Melville used to write his famous novel Moby Dick, and based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s bestseller “In the Heart of the Sea” about the authentic and dramatic voyage of the whaling ship Essex.
In the winter of 1820, the whaling ship Essex, belonging to Great Britain, sails the seas with total tranquility. His crew includes Captain George Pollard Jr., First Officer Owen Chase, Second Officer Matthew Joy, and Cabin Boy Thomas Nickerson. Without warning they are attacked by an unimaginable creature, something they have never faced before, a giant-sized whale, named Moby Dick, with a supernatural ability to preempt the actions of the crew.
After this head-on battle with the massive white whale, the surviving ship’s crew is forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. In harsh conditions, the survivors must brave the storms, hunger, panic, mistrust and despair of finding themselves on the high seas and facing certain death, questioning their deepest beliefs.
Stranded thousands of miles from land, Captain Pollard must search for the right address, while First Officer Owen, obsessed with the idea of hunting the cetacean, still seeks to kill the great white whale.

Inspirada en la historia real en la que se basó Herman Melville para escribir su famosa novela Moby Dick, y basada en el best seller “In the Heart of the Sea” de Nathaniel Philbrick sobre el auténtico y dramático viaje del buque ballenero Essex.En el invierno de 1820, el buque ballenero Essex, perteneciente a Gran Bretaña, navega por los mares con total tranquilidad. En su tripulación están el capitán George Pollard Jr., el primer oficial Owen Chase, el segundo oficial Matthew Joy y el grumete Thomas Nickerson. Sin previo aviso son atacados por una criatura inimaginable, algo a lo que nunca se habían enfrentado antes, una ballena de tamaño gigante, de nombre Moby Dick, con una capacidad sobrenatural para anteponerse a las acciones de los tripulantes.
Tras esta batalla frontal con la enorme ballena blanca, la tripulación del barco que sobrevive se ve empujada a hacer lo impensable para mantenerse con vida. En durísimas condiciones, los supervivientes deberán desafiar las tormentas, el hambre, el pánico, la desconfianza y la desesperación de encontrarse en alta mar y enfrentarse a una muerte segura, poniendo en duda sus creencias más profundas.
Varados a miles de millas de tierra, el capitán Pollard deberá buscar la dirección adecuada, mientras que el primer oficial Owen, obsesionado con la idea de dar caza al cetáceo, todavía busca dar muerte a la gran ballena blanca.
