  • Coco – Film In English – 70 pesos
    4:00 pm

    Description:

The “Day of the Dead” is a holiday where Mexicans remember and honor their deceased loved ones. It’s not a gloomy or morbid occasion, rather it is a festive and colorful holiday celebrating the lives of those who have passed on. Scholars trace the origins of the modern Mexican holiday to indigenous observances dating back hundreds of years and to an Aztec festival dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl.

To help share this special day with San Miguel, Shelter Theater presents the film Coco (the wildly-popular Walt Disney/Pixar hit) in both Spanish and in English. The film, which involves a Mexican boy’s budding relationship with his ancestors, will be presented in English on October 31st and in Spanish on November 3rd. The Spanish presentation will be free, so bring your favorite neighborhood kids to this terrific children’s film. You’ll love it too (and practice your Spanish) as ‘Miguel’ explores the stunning and colorful magic of the ‘Day of the Dead’. The San Diego Reader praises the film, “Enchanting and dazzling, Coco is a resplendent love letter to Mexico.”
