  • The Mojigangas Parade will be held, in honor of Dr. Polo Estrada, who is the “master cartonero” among the people of San Miguel and particularly in the neighborhood of Valle del Maíz; he is credited with the prestige, renown and national and international presence of mojigangas in other festivities around the world.

Alejandra Estrada, daughter of Don Polo, mentions that her father is in everyone’s memory: “It was a great loss for the family but also for the culture of the people and the state. The mojigangas were his life: first there was his family, then the traditions.”

Alejandra told us that her father learned the cartonería empirically, he saw who worked this craft; later he learned to make the structures: “He left a seed sown, there are already many groups that make the mojigangas.”

The parade will begin at 5:00 in the afternoon in the Plaza de los Insurgentes (Plaza Garibaldi), then continuing on the streets of San Antonio Abad, Arboles and Ancha de San Antonio until reaching the Plaza of the parish of San Antonio.
