This is an urgent call for help in fighting the infestation of Water Hyacinth (Lirio Acuatico) and its exponential growth in the Presa Ignacio Allende.

This invasive plant, which is covering approximately 30% – 40% of the Presa, is jeopardizing the livelihoods of the local fishing community, and threatening the health of birds and other wildlife, public health (a breeding ground for mosquitos), as well as the recreational and scenic enjoyment of this precious asset.

INVEST IN THE RESCUE THE PRESA CAMPAIGN

Invest in our campaign to remove & manage the Water Hyacinth in the Presa Allende and help local fishing & other communities create sustainable businesses from the harvesting of these plants.

We need immediate funds to purchase tools and equipment for the workers and a machine to grind the dried Water Hyacinth, test the lirio for heavy metals, and provide compensation for the fishing community’s work in removing the Water Hyacinth over the next few months.  We also need funds for hiring an experienced consultant to work with the communities in creating new business enterprises.

Donations can be made through Audubon de Mexico via PayPal, U.S. or Mexican check, or cash.

Contact us at audubondemexico@gmail.com for cash or check donations.
